Together, Chiva Bons and Do Verschragen founded Circusbende. In 2018, 3 successful festival editions passed. Then they decided they really needed an office and a workshop. That wish was fulfilled at the beginning of 2022 at Het Groene Veld.
Chiva and Do share a love for experimental and new circus and know how to put this down in artistically balanced programs. They're no alone in this, Lida, Tao and Amina also joined the team. It is this inspired young women's quintet that continues to touch the hearts of young and old with various colors from the emotions' palette.
Their motto 'what is not allowed, is still possible' is contagious. With this cheerful optimism, more than 10,000 people attended the performances last year. This year they also tie more than 200 volunteers and 70 artists to the festival.
Circusbende struck last summer with their magic, absurdism and brash laughter. The Bendefestival brought a tilting perspective and was a true ode to the sleepers. In the meantime, Circusbende has also been nominated for the Amsterdam Prize for the Arts! In the coming month it will become clear whether they will win the prize, but the nomination itself is of course already a wonderful proof of taste!
From next year the Circusbende festival will also be on the Groene Veld. We can not wait.
