Rachel Baiman is a newer name on the Americana scene. The multi-instrumentalist, originally from Chicago, has lived in Nashville since she was 18, where she has been working as a musician in all kinds of different roles for the past 10 years. As a session musician or as a sidewoman with artists such as Molly Tuttle, Kacey Musgraves and (Indigo Girl) Amy Ray, but also as a band member and producer.
Violin music is her first love and she is best known as a born musician in the bluegrass and old timey scene. Her first solo album Shame was produced by Andrew Marlin of Mandolin Orange and was praised to the skies by NPR as a “Rootsy wake up call”. Her new album Common Nation Of Sorrow was released in 2023, which received beautiful
reviews.
S. Lois S. Lois (Wijtze Valkema, the Netherlands) is a folk singer laying down no-nonsense vocals on a layer of up-tempo guitar flatpicking, influenced by the boom-chicka sound from Americana legends Maybelle Carter, Johnny Cash and Jimmy Martin.
In more contemporary terms, S. Lois’ inspiration comes from artists like Gillian Welch & David Rawlings, Willie Watson and Kris Drever. Recently, his single ‘I Stopped Worrying (A Long Time Ago)’ was added to the popular Monthly Playlist on the Spotify channel of GemsOnVHS from Nashville, the internationally acclaimed collective for folk videos.
