Josh Waggy

Complete silence and seclusion and the bustle and hustle

Dirt roads

Josh Waggy (49) is originally from the States. Growing up in a community in Arkwright, NY (near Buffalo, Niagara Falls) he lived on dirt roads until he was eighteen. The community basically lived in the woods without running water or electricity. Not surprisingly in his adult life Josh became a carpenter.

At 18, his first job was climbing trees to saw off dangerous or sick branches. Later, he went to college in California. Being extremely eager and motivated to learn, he studied whatever sounded interesting to him, such as anthropology, literature, philosophy and political science. Josh is a kind of knowledge omnivore.

Burning Man

After meeting Bibi at Burning Man in the States he followed her to the Netherlands in 2008 and started his own carpentry company to build houses, just as his grandfather and father did. Nowadays its ‘Woodpecker & Bee’ a partnership with Bibi. It goes without saying wood is the core of his work. Check out www.woodpeckerbee.com for inspiration!

Burning Man is an important constant in his live. It’s only there that Josh feels he can be completely himself. Whenever he is greeted arriving at the festival the first words are ‘Welcome home’ and this always moves him to tears, because it is genuinely how it feels.

Short stories

Having freedom of expression is a necessity for Josh which started in his youth by drawing daily and as such processing life and fantasy visually. Josh has been drawing all his life and has now expanded into writing short stories.

That’s where The Greenfield comes in. Josh doesn’t need much, a tiny space with nature and a sense of freedom around is enough to get him going. The fact that he can contribute to the community using - amongst others - his skills as a carpenter he finds extremely satisfying. The combination of complete silence and seclusion and the bustle and hustle of community life, Josh loves it. Welcome home, Josh!
