About
In 1950, hundreds of Indigenous people were expelled from their land by a mining company.
For 50 years, all the vegetation, soil, and life in this territory were devastated.
In 2000, an elder, Dona Catarina, organized her family, returned to the territory where her ancestors lived, and confronted the mining company and the state. The threats and conflicts were constant.
The existence of this people in this territory became synonymous of resistance.
In 2012, a group of young Indigenous people met us due to demonstrations and struggles in the neighboring city and invited us to participate in a process of building houses, schools, cultural centers, community kitchens, bathrooms, resistance and struggle in this territory.
In 2016, after many struggles, the territory was recognized as Indigenous Land by the Brazilian state.
During these years, with an old camera in hand, at the request of the families, we took these photos, something like proof of the existence of a people.
The exhibition "Território" presents some of these photos.
"Território" speaks about the possibility of existing in the world in other ways, completely distant from the state and capitalism.
The Piaçaguera Indigenous Land resists, the struggle continues!
Cultive Resistência
A moment to share stories of struggle and organization.
We have been with Indigenous families since 2012, collectively supporting and being supported by these people. Building collectives, events, villages, generating income, self-esteem, coexistence, closing highways, organizing demonstrations and learning new ways to exist and resist!
About the band Água
Água is an idea, a feeling, a tool that we recommend using to spread ideas and feelings.
We emerged as a band in 2020, in the middle of the Brazilian forest with the idea of using music to propose and generate change. In search of a better place for us, collectively, humans and non-humans, in all our diversity.
We seek to reach restless and nonconformist minds just like ours. We seek to feel the music and touch hearts, taking our restlessness and nonconformity everywhere.
Through music, we want to spread, reach every corner, break barriers, and gather where there are pockets of resistance.
We are a punk, anarchist band that believes in Do It Yourself and in building another way of living on earth.
To be water is to be ungovernable.
